NHS Innovation Fund Backs AI Technology to Support Mental Health Care

1 Dec 2025

Meridian Health Ventures investment boosts innovation in digital mental health care

A recent investment from Meridian Health Ventures, part of a national health innovation initiative, is set to strengthen the development of artificial intelligence technology designed to support mental health services. The funding has been directed towards two emerging digital health companies working in partnership with South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

One of the companies receiving support is developing clinical grade, AI enabled tools aimed at enhancing psychological interventions. Their focus is on extending support beyond therapy sessions, boosting patient engagement and improving treatment outcomes. By integrating digital tools with evidence based practice, the technology aims to offer clinicians additional support in delivering timely, personalised care.

This investment will also deepen ongoing collaboration with clinical teams at South London and Maudsley. The partnership is centred on building a rigorous evidence base around the safety, effectiveness and real world impact of AI enabled psychological support within mental health pathways. The shared goal is to ensure that innovations adopted within the NHS are clinically robust, safe and trusted.

The funding marks a significant step in accelerating research, development and evaluation of new digital approaches within mental health care. It also highlights growing national interest in technologies that can improve accessibility, sustainability and outcomes across mental health services.

The organisations involved expressed their commitment to continuing this work in close partnership with the NHS, with further developments expected in the coming months.
